EC 2.7 Transferases that transfer groups with phosphorus atoms

EC 2.7 subclass definition

The EC 2.7 subclass contains transferases that transfer groups with phosphorus atoms. Further classification is mixed and based on types of acceptor as well as on the number of phosphorus atoms in transferred groups and kinases. This classification is quite complicated but nevertheless allow us to keep a rather large group of enzymes, phosphotransferases, in one subclass EC 2.7.

Further classification of EC 2.7. subclass

Further classification is based on the number of transferred phosphourus atoms and on the acceptor type
  • EC 2.7.1 - Acceptor is an alcohol group. Phosphotransferases.
  • EC 2.7.2 - Acceptor is a carboxy group. Phosphotransferases.
  • EC 2.7.3 - Acceptor is a nitrogenous group. Phosphotransferases.
  • EC 2.7.4 - Acceptor is a phosphate group. Phosphotransferases.
  • EC 2.7.5 - Obsolete, reclassified as EC 5.4.2. Intramolecular transfer with regeneration of donor. Phosphotransferases.
  • EC 2.7.6 - Transfer of pyrophosphate group. Diphosphotransferases.
  • EC 2.7.7 - Transfer of nucleotides. Nucleotidyltransferase.
  • EC 2.7.8 - Transfer of other substituted phosphate groups.
  • EC 2.7.9 - Phosphotransferases with paired acceptors.
  • EC 2.7.10 - Protein-tyrosine kinases.
  • EC 2.7.11 - Protein-serine and protein-threonine kinases.
  • EC 2.7.12 - Dual-specificity kinases (those acting on Ser/Thr and Tyr residues)
  • EC 2.7.13 - Protein-histidine kinases
  • EC 2.7.14 - Other protein kinases
