EC 3.1 Hydrolases that hydrolyse ester bond, Esterases

EC 3.1 subclass definition

The EC 3.1 subclass contains esterases, hydrolases that hydrolyse ester bonds. Further classification is based on type of hydrolysed esters.

Further classification of EC 3.1 subclass

This classification is based on type of hydrolysed ester.
  • EC 3.1.1 - Carboxylic Ester Hydrolases - catalyze the hydrolysis of carboxylic acid esters with the formation of an alcohol and a carboxylic acid anion.
  • EC 3.1.2 - Thioester Hydrolases - catalyze hydrolysis of thioester.
  • EC 3.1.3 - Phosphoric monoester hydrolases - catalyze the hydrolysis of O-P bonds by nucleophillic attack by cysteine residues or coordinated metal ions.
  • EC 3.1.4 - Phosphoric Diester Hydrolases - catalyze the hydrolysis of one of the two ester bonds in a phosphodiester compound.
  • EC 3.1.5 - Triphosphoric Monoester Hydrolases - catalyze hydrolysis of triphosphoric monoester.
  • EC 3.1.6 - Sulfuric Ester Hydrolases - catalyze hydrolysis of sulfuric ester.
  • EC 3.1.7 - Diphosphoric Monoester Hydrolases - catalyze hydrolysis of diphosphoric monoester.
  • EC 3.1.8 - Phosphoric Triester Hydrolases - catalyze hydrolysis of phosphoric triester.
  • EC 3.1.11 - Exodeoxyribonucleases - catalyze the exonucleolytic cleavage of DNA, produce 5'-phosphomonoesters as cleavage products.
  • EC 3.1.13 - Exoribonucleases - catalyze the exonucleolytic cleavage of RNA, produce 5'-phosphomonoesters as cleavage products.
  • EC 3.1.14 - Exoribonucleases - catalyze the exonucleolytic cleavage of RNA, produce 3'-phosphomonoesters as cleavage products.
  • EC 3.1.15 - Exonucleases active with either ribo- or deoxyribonucleic Acids - catalyze the hydolysis of the terminal bonds of ribonucleotide or deoxyribonucleotide chains, produce 5'-phosphomonoesters
  • EC 3.1.16 - Exonucleases active with either ribo- or deoxyribonucleic Acids - catalyze the hydolysis of the terminal bonds of ribonucleotide or deoxyribonucleotide chains, produce 3'-phosphomonoesters
  • EC 3.1.21 - Endodeoxyribonucleases - catalyze the endonucleolytic cleavage of DNA, produce 5'-phosphomonoesters
  • EC 3.1.22 - Endodeoxyribonucleases - catalyze the endonucleolytic cleavage of DNA, produce 3'-phosphomonoesters
  • EC 3.1.23 - Endodeoxyribonucleases with sequence specific hydrolysis, obsolete, reclassified as EC 3.1.21
  • EC 3.1.24 - Endodeoxyribonucleases with non-specific sequence hydrolysis, obsolete, reclassified as EC 3.1.21
  • EC 3.1.25 - Endodeoxyribonucleases with sequence specific hydrolysis for altered bases
