EC 1.2. Dehydrogenases that act on aldehyde or oxo- group of donors



EC 1.2 subclass definition

The EC 1.2 subclass contains dehydrogenases that act on donors with oxo- or aldehyde group. Enzymes from this subclass oxidise aldehydes to the corresponding acids. If this acid is subsequently phosphorilated or acetylates CoA, this should be indicated in parentheses. Oxo- groups are oxidized with the addition of a water molecule. Further classification is based on acceptors involved in catalysis.

This classification is based on acceptors involved in catalysis.
  • EC 1.2.1 - Acceptors are NAD+ or NADP+
  • EC 1.2.2 - Acceptor is cytochrome
  • EC 1.2.3 - Acceptor is oxygen
  • EC 1.2.4 - Acceptor is disulfide
  • EC 1.2.7 - Acceptor is iron-sulfur protein
  • EC 1.2.99 - All other acceptors, also reserved for non classified enzymes
